About Paul
Paul James, digital consultant.
I have spent years on the builder’s side of the table and on the owner’s side. That difference is why I now mostly advise: I know how proposals get made, and I know what it costs when the wrong decision is inside one.

Why I advise instead of sell.
Both sides of the table
I spent years building, optimising and maintaining websites and online stores. In that time I also learned how a proposal comes about: someone asks for a solution, and the supplier delivers it. Rarely is anyone at the table whose job is to check whether that was the right solution.
I also run my own business. With Lubies I am building a brand, with everything that involves: decisions about stock, margins, ad budget, and whether something is worth doing at all. That changes how you look at digital investment. You stop asking what something can do and start asking what it returns.
What that gets you
When you talk to me you are talking to someone who understands the technology and the invoice. I can read a quote and see what is inside the hours. I can question a developer without the conversation ending in jargon. And I can tell you when something is good enough — which an agency with a sales target rarely will.
How I work
There is no team between you and the work. You speak with the person doing the research and writing the recommendation. That limits how much I take on — fewer clients, longer relationships — but it also means nothing gets lost in handover.
- I say it when the answer is that you should do nothing.
- I take no commission from suppliers I recommend.
- Advice and delivery are separate; you can take the advice elsewhere.
- Reports are written to be forwarded, not to impress.
What I hold to.
Where I am and how I work.
I work from Venhuizen, between Hoorn and Enkhuizen. For businesses in North Holland that means simply sitting around a table — in Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Alkmaar or Amsterdam. For the rest of the Netherlands I work remotely, with the same approach.
Creative Digital Media is the name the consultancy work runs under. Lubies is my own brand. Both exist alongside each other deliberately: the first keeps me current on what is happening in the market, the second keeps me honest about what digital investment actually returns.

What people usually ask.
Do you work alone?
Yes, for the advice. For delivery I work with a small set of people I know and whose work I can judge.
What kind of businesses suit you?
SMEs and growing small businesses where the decision-maker is reachable. From sole traders up to around a hundred staff.
Do you take urgent work?
For existing clients, yes. New enquiries always start with a conversation, even when there is a rush.
Do you still build yourself?
Yes, where it makes sense. But it is no longer the starting point of the work.
Shall we talk?
An hour, no charge. You describe what is going on; I tell you whether I think I can help.
